Second Place with Team ComfortCheck (Amos Ruth)
Marketing Strategy, Advocacy, and Purpose-Driven Innovation
The International Women’s Day 2025: Enriching Women’s Path program became a major turning point for me, especially through the teamwork challenge that pushed us to think creatively and collaboratively under pressure. Although I was initially uncertain about the challenge, watching our team grow from hesitation to innovation showed me how powerful diverse perspectives can be when people work toward a shared purpose.
As part of the team that won second place, we developed ComfortCheck, an AI-powered handheld, solar-charging breast health monitoring device designed to make early detection more accessible and comfortable for women, particularly in underserved communities. Serving as the team’s Marketing Strategist, I focused on identifying audience segments and developing outreach strategies that balanced social media engagement for younger women with trust-building approaches such as hospital partnerships and survivor testimonials for older demographics.
One of the biggest lessons I took away from our teamwork experience was that diversity of thought is one of our greatest strengths. The late-night calls, brainstorming sessions, and constant voting on ideas often felt chaotic, but that very process helped shape ComfortCheck into a stronger and more meaningful concept. Personally, I learned that even when my voice shakes, I still have a responsibility to speak up and advocate for the people our solution is meant to serve, a lesson emphasized by one of the guest speakers, Omolola Lasisi, during the program.
More importantly, the experience redefined my perspective on life and service. I am no longer focused on simply completing tasks, but on creating meaningful impact and helping others more intentionally. Inspired by the program, I became involved in local NGOs focused on women’s health advocacy and outreach, with a growing passion for supporting underserved women and improving access to healthcare within vulnerable communities.
