Day 2025

Third Place with Team Amora (Esther Oluwayanmife Odewade)

Leadership, Research, and Purpose-Driven Innovation

Attending the International Women’s Day 2025: Enriching Women’s Path program was an experience I had been eagerly looking forward to, and it exceeded every expectation. From career development conversations to discussions on leadership, impact, and navigating STEM spaces as women, each session was insightful, inspiring, and deeply empowering.

During the teamwork challenge themed “Innovate Her: Crafting Unique Solutions for Women, ”I served as the Group Leader and Research Analyst for Team Amora, the team that placed third place in the competition. Leading the team required navigating different perspectives and encouraging collaboration under tight timelines. After several brainstorming sessions, we developed a solution focused on addressing barriers women face in STEM, particularly challenges surrounding personal protective equipment (PPE) designed specifically for women.

This experience went far beyond a podium finish. It reminded me that bold ideas flourish when women collaborate with purpose. Beyond the competition itself, the experience reinforced the importance of purposeful collaboration and inclusive leadership. I learned that leadership is not simply about directing a team, but about creating space for every voice and idea to contribute meaningfully, just as my incredible teammates Omowunmi, Pelumi, and Deborah each did. Most importantly, the experience strengthened my confidence as a geoscientist and further motivated me to continue pursuing solutions capable of creating lasting impact within my community and beyond.
